Coppicing on Huntley Estate

The winter months from November to March is the time when we practice the old woodland art of coppicing, which is the practice of cutting back (a tree or shrub) to ground level periodically to stimulate growth. In a coppiced wood, which is called a copse, young tree stems are repeatedly cut down to near […]

Woodland Yuletide greetings

On the 21st of December, we reflect on some of the old, pagan, woodland traditions from years gone by. Two of the woodland plants which have had cultural significance to both the pre-Christian and Christian people of Britain are the holly bush and mistletoe. As evergreen plants, they were revered by traditional cultures and were […]

As the dust settles on a beautiful season of woodland activities, we reflect on the programme which, following some false starts and pandemic issues in 2020 and 2021, took full flight for the first time this year. We hosted an exciting range of activities; some at our group campsite behind May Hill Village Hall and […]

Main campsite opens in Easter

We’ve been busy working on our main field campsite, getting ready to launch it as a commercial campsite during the coming Easter break.
